Profile
This innovation center has been operating since September 1, 2012 and is under the auspices of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII). PIMVM UII focuses on research, community empowerment, and business incubator activities for the UII academic community and the surrounding community. This establishment is proof of UII’s earnestness as a university that is closest to Mount Merapi in empowering local resources (natural resources, human resources, and technological resources) to enable the local people surrounding Mount Merapi to take advantage of the local potential for the significant improvement of their lives.
The products developed by PIMVM are based on the results of studies or research conducted by UII lecturers and students, which mainly focus on sand-cement-based building materials. These products have passed a trial process in the community. For example, Batako Merapi (Merapi brick) as a product of PIMVM was initiated through a focus group discussion with UII alumni as construction practitioners and has been tested at the Laboratory of Construction Materials. Batako Merapi received the Indocement Award in 2012. PIMVM upholds the tagline of ACT, GROW, and SHARE in the context of community empowerment, especially the community surrounding Mount Merapi where the UII Integrated Campus is located.

Product excellence:
PIMVM products are designed for those with a vision of quality. All products have been tested in the laboratory and have met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The featured product of PIMVM is Batako Merapi, the best choice for the best quality of home and building structures in Yogyakarta with its excellence in numerous aspects.
Batako Merapi is produced through laboratory tests at Universitas Islam Indonesia and made in a large hydraulic press machine, resulting in SNI compressive strength. Walls with high strength make buildings more solid and difficult for thieves to break in. High strength supports the building resistance to earthquake.
The high-tech production system results in precise dimension and size, so the installation between bricks can simply use adhesive mortar (fine mortar), thereby accelerating the construction. The precision makes Batako Merapi suitable as exposed bricks with a high artistic value.
Walls with Batako Merapi can be directly covered with finishing mortar (without plastering), thus saving 13% cost and speeding the installation 3x faster compared to ordinary bricks. In addition, the hollows in Batako Merapi can be used for electricity cables, making the walls look neater.
Batako Merapi is produced without using fertile soil, and unlike ordinary bricks, no combustion process is employed in the manufacture. Batako Merapi contains no toxic or hazardous materials, and it is flea- or insect-free.
Batako Merapi has hollows, making it lighter than ordinary bricks, thus reducing the transportation and construction costs.
Batako Merapi has temperature-insulating power which can reduce the electricity cost for AC and make the room more comfortable and cooler throughout the day.
Because of the hollows, Batako Merapi is not only lightweight but also able to muffle noise.
Batako Merapi is made from sturdy materials, resulting in a stable and more durable product.
Batako Merapi is an effort to empower local materials, local communities, and local technology surrounding the slopes of Mount Merapi in the frame of bringing grace to the universe (rahmatan lil ‘alamin).
