Civil Engineering Study Program of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) successfully organized the Summer School GeoAdventures 2024: Discovering Geohazards and Mitigation Strategies, held from September 2 to 7, 2024. The program brought together students from prominent universities in Indonesia and Malaysia, including UiTM Malaysia, UCSI Malaysia, UNY Yogyakarta, UII Yogyakarta, and Universitas Tridinanti Palembang. Combining academic sessions with immersive field experiences, the program offered valuable cross-cultural learning and deepened understanding of geohazards and mitigation strategies.
The series of activities began with an opening ceremony and introductory sessions, followed by lectures on seismic risk and hands-on fieldwork using microtremor and MASW methods. Participants also explored the Opak Fault to observe tectonic activity and engaged in a thematic field visit titled From Sabo to Lava, which included a trip to Bronggang Sabo Dam and lava flows near Mount Merapi. These activities provided real-world exposure to geotechnical challenges and disaster risk management practices.
The program concluded with team project presentations and a campus tour of UII before the closing ceremony. On the final day, Malaysian participants returned home, bringing with them new insights, skills, and lasting memories. Through this initiative, UII continues to strengthen international collaboration and contribute to disaster education for future civil engineering professionals. Sincere appreciation is extended to all university partners and contributors who made this program a success.
